This lovely old house, which was opposite the Slipper Baths in South Place, once belonged to Thomas Dodd, a scrap metal dealer in Brampton.
Behind the house is Markham Road and to the right was the Slipper Baths.

Tommy Dodd was my grandfather and I used to visit him here when I was a young child in the 1950’s. The house always seemed like a tardis. There were two rooms at the front, one of which was the best room and you were only allowed in on a Sunday. There was a huge kitchen/general living area at the back which you had to go down a flight of 3 or 4 steps to enter from the rest of the house. It had a huge cast iron range to heat the water and cook on. I think there were 3 or 4 bedrooms but we were not allowed upstairs. My grandmother was very Victorian. I seem to remember the house always smelt of mothballs. Tommy Dodds scrap yard was at the back of Northern Tea Merchants up Brampton.
